Location: Ruddy Family Y, 265 Centrum Blvd, Ottawa
Type: Contract ending June 30, 2021 (6 hours per day)
Preferred start date: Monday, Apr 12, 2021

Nature and Scope:         

 The National Capital Region YMCA-YWCA Licensed Child Care programs provide quality care for 250 children and their families across the region. Each Centre offers care for different age groups ranging from 18 months to 12 years of age. The Child Care programs operate year-round focusing on healthy child development in an inviting and nurturing environment. In addition, parents play an integral role in our program through mutual respect as partners in fostering a positive experience in which their children can grow and develop.

The Enhanced Support Staff will function as a team member responsible for the maintenance of high-quality programs for children and families by creating an educational, safe, clean and enjoyable environment for children. The role of the Enhanced Support Staff is to assist the teaching team in supporting a child(ren) with special needs who is/are attending a licensed child care program.


  • Supports and makes a commitment to the principles of inclusion.
  • Be familiar with the activities, routines, philosophy, policies, and procedures of the child care program.
  • Recognizes the need for the child(ren) to interact with all children and staff in the child care program.
  • Assists in providing optimal opportunities for the child(ren) to fully participate in all activities.
  • Facilitates and engages other children in activities to create opportunities for peer interactions.
  • Participates in discussions with the teaching team and the Resource Consultant when appropriate.
  • Participates in staff meetings and training opportunities as required and approved by the Resource Consultant.
  • Responds to the daily direction given by the teaching team and/or Director/Home Child Care Consultant.
  • Implements program activities and recommended strategies including those outlined in the Team Service Plan in partnership with the teaching team.
  • Maintains good working relations with the teaching staff to ensure effective communication and teamwork.
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times.

Required Qualifications:

  • ECE diploma or CECE recognized equivalency an asset
  • Behavioural Studies course or equivalency is an asset
  • Member in good standing of the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario as required
  • Minimum two years experience working with children
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR ‘C’ with AED Certifications
  • Letter of good health from a physician prior to beginning position
  • Immunizations and Tuberculosis test are up to date prior to beginning position
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities
  • Previous experience with diverse populations
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
  • High level of interpersonal and written skills
